DOD 835 Crossover Fail. Really cheap pots. They just fell apart
A while ago I fixed a DOD electronic crossover by repairing a pot that fell apart. I got the thing back a few days ago and found that 3 more of the total of 6 100K pots had fallen apart the same way. The wiper just came off and fell out the bottom. I replaced the PC board mount pots with panel mount. I used old IDE cable for the wires. I can’t believe DOD used such cheap pots in this thing.
The top one is the one I fixed before. That one still works. I changed it out anyway.
So if you get one of these DODs that doesn’t work or you can’t control the level take a look at the pots first.
I used these, RV120F-10-15F-B100K-0075. I got them from Mouser. They are a couple of dollars each. It was a snug fit since the knobs were keyed at 220 degrees and the pots had to be oriented straight up and down. The solder pads just missed the board.
