It is a bit harder to get them soldered but it can be done. 50V caps are much easier to find.

I got in a Moseley PCL 606 STL transmitter that was way low on power. Sometimes this is caused by the SL560C RF amplifier losing its ability to amplify. It is much like the degradation of the MAR-4 in a Moseley 6000 series transmitter. The problem here is that the TO99 can version of the […]

I found this shoe hanger on the side of the road, unopened and complete. Seems to be a good way to sort my plethora of cables. Found some I didn’t know I had. One of many messes cleaned up. Yay!

A while ago I fixed a DOD electronic crossover by repairing a pot that fell apart. I got the thing back a few days ago and found that 3 more of the total of 6 100K pots had fallen apart the same way. The wiper just came off and fell out the bottom. I replaced […]

I got called in the other night to pick up and fix a Mosley 6020 STL receiver that had no LO1 level on the meter. The AFC Lock was on but there was no indication of receive. All voltages, +-15 and 5 were good. I brought it back to the shop and as soon as […]

I got an Orban Optimod 8100A in for repair. The power supply was the problem, the only tantalum cap on the board had opened up. That is strange since tants usually short, not this one. The symptom was that the + 15 volts would slowly decrease until it got to about 12 volts and everything […]

We were going through the warehouse to see what kind of stuff we could get rid of (or I could fix in a video) when we came across this. That is the pinch roller on a Otari MX5050 4 Channel reel to reel. This thing has been sitting in the warehouse for a number of […]

In the past electronics repair was a pretty straight forward business. Find the bad part and replace it. You did not have to worry much about the parts you were getting. You could count on their quality even from places like Radio Shack. Now days that is just not true. If you go to EBay […]
